Water at the soil level only — wet zinnia leaves catch powdery mildew in two weeks flat. Mulch heavily, feed monthly with a half-strength tomato feed.

If mildew appears anyway, strip the worst leaves and continue — flowers usually keep coming despite tatty foliage.
