The single way to kill lavender is wet feet. In pots, use 70% peat-free compost, 30% horticultural grit. Choose terracotta (it breathes) over plastic.

Plant in full sun. Never plant in compost-rich beds — lavender on rich soil grows soft, flops and dies young.
